Eileen Murray ’80 to Deliver Address at Spring Commencement

Eileen Murray ’80, co-chief executive officer and a member of the management committee at Bridgewater Associates, LP, the world’s largest hedge fund, will deliver the keynote address at Manhattan College’s Spring Commencement on Saturday, May 16 at 3 p.m. She will also receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree at the ceremony.

Murray has more than two decades of Wall Street experience, as a former executive and management committee member at Morgan Stanley. She was also a management and executive board member of Credit Suisse and a president of Duff Capital Advisors.

Murray was named one of Hedge Fund Journal’s 50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds in 2013. U.S. Banker named her as one of the 25 Most Powerful Non-Bank Women in Banking in 2008. Murray is currently a member of the Board of the YMCA of Greater New York, the Business Council for International Understanding, and Inwood House, an organization in New York City that provides a wide range of services to improve life-long outcomes for thousands of youth from vulnerable communities, including K-12 students, pregnant and parenting teens and their children.

In recognition of her leadership in the financial services industry, Murray has received the Women’s Bond Club Merit Achievement Award, which is presented to a woman in the financial community who is widely recognized for her contributions in the industry. She has also received the Legal Momentum’s Aiming High Award, the Urban Stages Humanitarian Award and the YMCA of Greater New York’s Arts & Letters Award for Outstanding Leadership.

The Spring Commencement ceremony awards master’s degrees to students graduating from the Schools of Business and Engineering; bachelor’s and master’s degrees to students from the School of Continuing and Professional Studies; and master’s degrees and professional diplomas to students from the School of Education and Health.

“Eileen Murray's accomplishments and service make her an ideal example for our graduates to follow in their professional and personal lives," says Brennan O’Donnell, president of Manhattan College. "We are proud to have her as an alumna, and look forward to hearing what I am sure will be a wise and encouraging address to the graduates."

Murray earned a B.S. in accounting from Manhattan College in 1980 and is a former member of the College’s Board of Trustees.

In addition to the Spring Commencement, Manhattan College will host its 173rd Undergraduate Commencement on Sunday, May 17 and award bachelor’s degrees to students in some 40 major fields of study from its five schools in arts, business, education and health, engineering and science. Renowned Catholic scholar David J. O’Brien, Ph.D. will deliver the keynote address.
