At Manhattan College in the Bronx, which lost 20 alumni, part of the focus of the "We Remember" events will also be on the rebuilding of city infrastructure after the devastation. Manhattan College alumnus Rudolph Giuliani, mayor of New York at the time and remembered for his tireless on-the-scene leadership, will be a featured speaker.

To mark the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, Manhattan College is presenting a five-day We Remember series of events, Wednesday, Sept. 7 through Sunday, Sept. 11 to pay tribute to the victims of the tragic attacks. The events include: a commemorative ceremony, a panel presentation by graduates of the College, a faculty teach-in, a campus-wide service day on Sept. 10 in honor of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, an act signed by President Obama in 2009 officially designating Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, and a memorial Mass

Mansa Sarlo-Passafiume has been named the director for Manhattan College's new Center of Academic Success. She will play a key role in helping to launch the new Center, which focuses on helping students to improve academic performance and success, leading to better retention and graduation rates. Sarlo-Passafiume, a resident of Shrub Oak, N.Y, most recently served as director of the Manhattanville College mentor program within the Center for Academic Success, and assisted in developing and implementing the College's first peer mentoring program. In addition, she was also the assistant director of the Manhattanville advancement program, collaborating with faculty and staff to provide support services to historically underrepresented students during their first year experience.

“So much of what I believe, what I know and what I can do was formed here at Manhattan College,” Giuliani, class of 1965, told the crowd in the Chapel of De La Salle and His Brothers. “It is very emotional for me to be back here. This is a very difficult time to relive.” He added that the last time he and a friend of his, who was in the audience, were in the chapel at the same time was when they found out President John F. Kennedy had been assassinated.
