BORROWING PRIVILEGES

Currently enrolled students, faculty, administrators, staff, and alumni of Manhattan College with valid college ID cards have borrowing privileges. Full-time faculty members and administrators with valid ID cards from WALDO-member libraries (Westchester Academic Library Directors Organization) may also borrow books. Elementary and high school students do not have library privileges. For more information, see the library's Access Policy.

LIBRARY CARDS

The college ID card serves as the library card. Alumni may apply for a card from the Director's Office.

BORROWING MATERIALS

A valid MC ID card or Alumni Library Card is required to check out materials. Books circulate to students and alumni for four weeks and to faculty members for four months. Reference books and periodicals do not circulate. A book may be renewed if no other borrower has requested it. Renewals may be made in person or online via Jaspercat the library catalog. A hold may be placed on a book that is checked out. Books on hold are held at the circulation desk for one week. (See also Circulation Policy.)

FINES AND CHARGES

The fine for overdue books is $.10 per book per day (with a maximum of $20.00 per book). If a book is not returned, the borrower is charged $35.00 ($45.00 for an engineering book) plus any fine. Although an attempt is made to notify borrowers of overdue materials, the borrower is responsible for returning them and for any fines whether or not notification has been received. Delinquencies may result in suspension of borrowing privileges and/or withholding of transcripts. Students who owe at least three overdue books or $20.00 in fines are blocked from checking out other materials. (See also Circulation Policy.)

RESERVE MATERIALS

Faculty members sometimes place books, articles, or other materials on reserve in the library for their classes. The list of reserve materials may be accessed online via the Electronic Reserves System. The books on reserve are also listed in the library catalog. Many of the articles on reserve have been scanned in and are available online in full-text through the Electronic Reserves System. A valid ID card is required to check out reserve materials. Use of reserve materials is generally restricted to two hours in the library or to overnight use. Overnight materials must be returned the next day including weekends. The fine for overdue overnight reserve materials is $.25 per hour (with a maximum of $20.00 per item). (See also Circulation Policy.)

FINDING BOOKS AND PERIODICALS

Books in the College Library can be identified by author, title, or subject in the online catalog, JASPERcat which is accessible on the Library database page. The library catalog also lists the holdings of Mount Saint Vincent, Fordham, and other local academic libraries. The Manhattan College Library also provides online access to periodical indexes and many full-text articles via ProQuest and other databases. Periodical titles available at Manhattan College in print, microform, or electronic full text are listed in the Library Periodical List.

REFERENCE SERVICE

During the regular sessions, reference librarians are generally available in the Library to answer questions until 9:00 P.M.

COMPUTER ACCESS

The library has two computer laboratories and an electronic classroom providing access to various programs and the Internet. To access the Library's databases from off campus, patrons can either login using their Jaspernet username and password, or alternatively, they can log in with their 16 digit Manhattan College ID card and their last name.

MICROFORMS

Microfilm and microfiche materials and equipment are available. The reader/printers charge $.10 per page copied.

MEDIA CENTER

Videotapes, DVDs, and CDs are located on the first floor of the Library. They are listed in JasperCat, the Manhattan College Library Catalog on the Library database menu and may be checked out.

INTERLIBRARY LOANS

Books or photocopies of articles not available in the Manhattan College Library may be requested from other libraries through interlibrary loan. Request forms may be picked up at the reference or circulation desks. Allow from two to three weeks for delivery. (More info.)

ACCESS TO AREA COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES

Manhattan College students may make on-site use of the WALDO-member libraries (Westchester Academic Library Directors Organization). Full-time Manhattan College faculty members and administrators having WALDO stickers on their Manhattan College ID cards may borrow from WALDO libraries. Limited on-site use of many other area libraries may be made through use of a METRO* referral card, which can be issued by a Manhattan College reference librarian.
* New York Metropolitan Reference and Research Library Agency.

PHOTOCOPIERS

Photocopiers are located on the fourth floor of the Library. The photocopiers charge $.10 per page. Copy cards costing more than $5.00 provide a per-copy discount.

SUGGESTIONS

Library users are encouraged to make suggestions for the improvement of library resources and services. Signed suggestions or complaints deposited in the suggestion box in the O'Malley Library will be answered. Suggestions for book purchases can be made using an online form.
