The curriculum is designed to prepare exercise science and sports medicine leaders for careers in corporate fitness, hospital-based wellness, community recreation and fitness, private and commercial fitness, and athletic training.
By coupling the specialized exercise science major with an effective liberal arts curriculum, the program prepares graduates who are not only well trained in a specific area of the profession, but who are also developed as persons possessing distinctive and desirable cultural and spiritual attributes, with training in reason and logic, who have extensive knowledge of fundamental scientific processes.
The exercise science major is designed for students who wish to work in the wellness and fitness promotion field. This concentration provides the requirements for certification as an exercise specialist from the American College of Sport Medicine and/or certification as a certified strength and conditioning specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Both certifications are considered the gold standard within the wellness and fitness promotion field.
