Sending Out Messages to the Campus Community

In an effort to address concerns from students about feeling "spammed" with dozens of daily [Jaspernet] emails, Manhattan College has implemented new tools to more efficiently broadcast messages to the campus community. There will be two daily digest emails sent out to the campus community each morning: Today at Manhattan College (for events promotion) and MC Announcements (for information). Think of these emails as "morning announcements." It is important to read these emails each day in order to be informed about what's happening on campus. The information contained in these emails is also accessible at any time through the myMC portal at mymc.manhattan.edu and the college calendar at calendar.manhattan.edu

The manner in which you broadcast your message depends on the type of message it is. Please see below for specific details:

Events

For Example:

  • Anything someone can attend (e.g. lectures, presentations, seminars, performances, information sessions, receptions, etc.)
  • See the online calendar submission guidelines for more specific information about which events should and should not be included on the college calendar.

How to submit +

1) Add the event to the online calendar

Once your event is submitted, it will appear on the online calendar at calendar.manhattan.edu and will also automatically be promoted through the following channels with no further action required from you:

  • Emails: Today at Manhattan and This Week at Manhattan
  • Mobile: App available for iPhone; mobile website available for all devices
  • Digital Signage: in locations across campus
  • Websites: the myMC portal site (mymc.manhattan.edu) and the main college site (manhattan.edu)

You should add your event to the calendar as soon as you have the date confirmed.

2) Optional: Request press release and/or flyer design

If your event is open to the public or features a notable speaker, you can request a press release and/or flyer design at manhattan.edu/promote.

3) Optional: Request RSVP reminder

If your event requires an RSVP/sign-up, you can request that a reminder be included in the This Week at Manhattan/Today at Manhattan emails. Request this at manhattan.edu/promote.

4) Optional: Add ONE save-the-date notice as an announcement in the myMC portal

If you want to give people advanced notice, you can optionally also post a save-the-date notice about your event in the myMC portal at mymc.manhattan.edu. You do not need to make more than one save-the-date announcement because by submitting your event to the online calendar, it will automatically be promoted via many different channels including the myMC portal and email.

Please do not add more than one save the date notice to the portal. All save the date portal announcements must be a week or more before the event. Do not make a save the date announcement the week of the event.

  • You must first submit your event to the calendar.manhattan.edu online calendar.
  • Once your event is submitted, create your myMC portal announcement.
  • The following format is recommended:
Title: Save the Date MM/DD - Event Name
Abstract: 1-2 sentences about the event including the time and location
Message: Any additional information you have about the event
Link (URL): paste in the URL from your event's webpage on calendar.manhattan.edu
    Start displaying on: today's date - e.g. 3/1/13
Stop displaying on: 3 days in the future - e.g. 3/4/13

Deadlines & Non-Event Dates
